Childhood obesity – who is to blame?

 This PSA was created by Strong 4 Life – “a wellness movement designed to ignite societal change and reverse the epidemic of childhood obesity and its associated diseases”.

We are all guilty of the occasional Fast Food fix when we are short on time and time will only allow for that “fast” food alternative.

As long as it is an occasional fix and you can honestly admit that this intake is equaled – if not exceeded with exercise and movement… Then we are still ok… to a certain point…

But when this becomes a weekly part, or daily meal routine, then health alarm bells should start ringing!

I am not writing this to create a fast food revolution – as this is not the only guilty party with the growing childhood obesity epidemic.

It’s the whole life style and eating habits that we teach are children that should be reviewed.

Just as we try very hard to create routines and teach our children good mannerisms, that we incept in our children’s daily lives, such as saying “please” and “thank you”  – are very very important… But in my personal opinion healthy eating habits, enrolling them in physical movement activities are just important.

As they grow up their self confidence will require both emotional and physical happiness.

Emotional happiness is always more important – but how happy can you be in an unhealthy body? The same applies to your child.

Physical Lifestyle:

With numerous options from all sports activities in schools and clubs – from football, basketball, taekwondo, swimming – to Zumba, dancing, gymnastics, ballet, Kindermusik, etcMOVEMENT should be a weekly routine for your child.

Moms, Just as you are committed to raising your children to be smart, polite and intelligent – commit to teaching them to be active. 

Children are moody and love to be lazy – when you take them to try a new activity they may be easily bored, fatigued and may ask not to go anymore… DO NOT GIVE UP!

If you sincerely feel that a certain activity is not working well – choose another…

DO NOT GIVE UP ON YOUR CHILD’S HEALTH.

Healthy food and meal plans:

If you can’t cook.

If you don’t have time to cook.

If you have no one to cook for you.

There is always a solution! I recently met an amazing organization called WOMEN TO WOMEN SUCCESS* – they offer homemade catering services. Homemade food made by women to cater to other women. Now that’s empowerment! Website: www.w2wsuccess.org

There are always options! There is always a way!
