Before reading this post – can you honestly answer the following: What was the last book you read?
I used to read so much more, but with smartphones and their social media “traps” I always seem to find easier ways to pass the time.
I remember buying “Fifty Shades of Grey” and then stopped midway as I heard the movie would be coming out soon … should have continued reading as it was not worth the cinema ticket … but that’s a review for another time 🙂
Second question to moms of school age children: what was the last book your child read?
Not taking into consideration homework or their Facebook wall – reading outside of studies is at risk.
In 2012, the Arab Thought Foundation’s Fikr released its fourth annual cultural development report in January, saying that the average Arab child reads “6 minutes” a year in comparison to 12,000 minutes its Western counterpart spends.
With reading being a major concern today for Lebanon and the Arab world, it must be of significant importance to all Arabs to promote reading.
TIME FOR ACTION SUPER MOMS!
Children learn through imitation. No matter what age they look up to you – so parents you are the catalyst for change!
STEP #1: START READING TIME.
I know all moms of babies and toddlers love and have sacred reading times for the kids – but we need to keep that routine going… We seem to stop enjoying this routine once they start school.
I am guilty of this! I just felt that after my 7 year old’s homework he should just “chill” out – we do painting and other arts and crafts but for some reason I personally didn’t think of reading as an option…
So now we have reading time re-incorporated in their bed time routine.
